CLEMSON, S.C. - - Belmont University men's basketball returns to game action Tuesday night at Clemson in the quarterfinal round of the 2014 Postseason NIT.
The Bruins defeated Robert Morris, 82-71, Friday. Senior J.J. Mann (Smyrna, Ga.) scored a game-high 25 points for Belmont.
Belmont has several ties to the state of South Carolina. Assistant coaches James Strong and Mark Price served as assistant coaches at Furman University before joining Coach Byrd's staff prior to the 2011-12 season. Belmont Director of Athletics Mike Strickland began his athletic administrative career at USC Aiken. And while in the Atlantic Sun Conference, Belmont had annual contests with USC Upstate.
Belmont head coach Rick Byrd and Clemson head coach Brad Brownell have faced twice prior, both games during Brownell's tenure at Wright State.
Belmont is 1-5 in its NCAA Division I era against current members of the Atlantic Coast Conference. The Bruins defeated No. 11 North Carolina, 83-80, Nov. 17. The record also includes two, one-point setbacks to Duke.
Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. ET/6 p.m. CT from Littlejohn Coliseum. The game will be broadcast on ESPN and the WatchESPN app.
