Box Score NASHVILLE, Tenn.- Despite a six run first inning, the Belmont University baseball team (4-4) fell 13-7 to the visiting Evansville Aces, Wednesday evening at E.S. Rose Park.
Belmont's Kyle Klotz (Fairview, Tenn.) was the hard luck loser as he logged 3.2 innings out of the bullpen only allowing 2 earned runs. Brennan Washington (Murfreesboro, Tenn.) and Chas Hadden (Morristown, Tenn.) each posted multi-hit games for the Bruins.
The Bruins got off to the quick start they were in need of after last night's setback, as they sent nine batters to the plate in their first chance at bat. The first four batters to come to the plate all reached as Desi Ammons (Hohenwald, Tenn.) opened the game's scoring with a base hit through the left side driving in Rafael Bournigal (Mulberry, Fla.). Belmont finished with six runs in the inning.
Alex Ward (Murfreesboro. Tenn.) who is off to a great start in the batter's box took his talents to the mound where he made his first start of the 2016 season. Ward cruised through the first inning with relative easy, notching a 1,2,3 frame but ran into trouble after BU's long first inning rally. The first three Purple Aces to bat in the second all reached and left the bases loaded with nobody out. Ward recorded one out in the inning before Klotz came on in relief now with the score sitting at 6-3. Klotz battled but allowed three inherited runners to cross the plate and all the sudden the score stood 6-6.
In the third and fourth innings, respectively, both Klotz and UE's Weigand exchanged scoreless frames and the same score read after four complete.
Evansville broke the stalemate with a two run top of the fifth of Klotz. Belmont struck back with a run of its own in the bottom of the inning as Bournigal scored his team-high second run of the game after Washington reached on an error.
This is as close as BU would get, as the Aces tacked on three more in the top of the sixth to expand their lead to 11-7.
Josh Tubbs (Camden, Tenn.) and Washington each picked up scoreless relief appearances for BU.
The Bruins return to action this weekend as they welcome Youngstown State to Nashville for a three-game set at Rose Park.
