Box Score EVANSVILLE, Ind.- The Belmont University baseball team (26-19, 12-9) cruised to an 11-1 victory Wednesday evening over the host Evansville Purple Aces at Braun Stadium in Evansville, Ind.
A trio of Bruins produced three-hit games as Brennan Washington (Murfreesboro, Tenn.), Hunter Holland (Soddy Daisy, Tenn.) and Chas Hadden (Morristown, Tenn.) all came through with three-hit performances. Both Washington and Holland homered in the lopsided victory, for Holland it was his second long ball of the season while Washington's round tripper was his team-high 12th homer.
After being held scoreless in their first two turns at bat, the Bruins struck first with a three run top of the third. BU kept things rolling from this point forward as it scored four in the fourth and tacked on two additional scores in the fifth. Belmont combined for nine runs in innings three through five and led 9-0 after five innings were gone.
Holland and Washington registered solo homeruns in the seventh and eighth, respectively to add some insurance as BU held Evansville scoreless until the eighth.
Washington finished with a game-high three runs driven in.
Kyle Conger (Brentwood, Tenn.) continues to see the ball well as he finished with two hits and an RBI out of the leadoff spot while Tyler Fullerton (Murfreesboro, Tenn.) and Ben Kocher (Zionsville, Ind.) also contributed multi-hit performances.
In a staff day, six Bruin hurlers combined to allow just one run, scattering seven hits. Casey Queener (Brentwood, Tenn.) led the charge for the Bruins as he picked up his second win with a three inning, zero run performance on the road. Queener allowed just two hits and had sharp breaking pitch working in the early going.
Zach Hodgkiss (Eads, Tenn.), Kyle Klotz (Brentwood, Tenn.), Connor Etheridge (Springfield, Ill.), and Josh Tubbs (Brentwood, Tenn.) all logged one inning stints while Austin Krzeminski (Roswell, Ga.) appeared for two innings of relief.
The Bruins even the season series with Evansville as they avenge their early season loss in Nashville to the Aces.
Belmont outhit UE 17-7.
Evansville, Ind. native, Tyler Walsh returned to his hometown while Kocher, a native of the Indianapolis area, returned home to the Hoosier state as well.
Belmont resumes OVC action with a series at Murray State this weekend.
