NASHVILLE, Tenn. - - Belmont University men's basketball returns to game action Saturday at UT Martin.
Belmont defeated Southeast Missouri, 94-72, Thursday. Senior Amanze Egekeze (Lake in the Hills, Ill.) and freshman Nick Hopkins each scored 21 points for the Bruins. Junior Dylan Windler (Indianapolis, Ind.) had 16 points and nine rebounds to come within an eyelash of his 10th double-double of the season. The Bruins shot 60 percent from the field and outscored the Redhawks, 38-16, in points in the paint.
With the victory, Belmont has won 15 of its last 16 conference openers. The Bruins also tied Kansas for the most conference victories since 2003 (236).
2017 Belmont graduate Nick Smith tied the Curb Event Center single-game record for made 3-point field goals last season vs. UT Martin (10). In that game, senior Austin Luke (Rowlett, Texas) had 11 assists, one shy of the Curb Event Center single-game record and two shy of his career high.
The game will feature 12 natives of the state of Tennessee; six for each side.
This marks the 38th meeting between Belmont and UT Martin, but just the sixth since Belmont became an NCAA Division I member institution in 1996-97; all coming in OVC play. Belmont won, 83-67, last season at the Curb Event Center.
