NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Belmont Men's Tennis closed the home portion of its schedule in victorious fashion on Thursday afternoon. The Bruins (9-11, 3-1 OVC) rolled by crosstown rival Tennessee State (7-7, 1-3 OVC), 6-1, at the Centennial Sportsplex outdoor courts.
Belmont clenched the doubles point thanks to the work of partners Cedric Dujacquier (Feluy, Belgium) and Hendrik Inno (Someru, Estonia) at No.1 and junior Stephen Goldman (Lutz, Fla.) and sophomore Zak Khan (London, United Kingdom) at No. 2. Both pairs earned victories with ease, 6-2 and 6-4, respectively.
In singles play, the Bruins rolled to straight set wins at Nos. 1 through 3. Dujacquier won 6-1, 6-2 at No. 1 to become the owner of the most career victories at Belmont. Freshman Vincent Sterkens (Antwerp, Belgium) picked up a 6-3, 6-0 at No. 2 while Inno won 6-0, 6-1 at No. 3. Khan battled into a tiebreaker set before coming away victorious at No. 4, 7-6 (6), 6-7 (4), 10-8. Senior Bruno Russo (Sao Paulo, Brazil) earned the win at No. 6 in straight sets, 6-1, 6-2.
Just prior to the day's first serves, Dujacquier and Russo were honored as part of Senior Day for their contributions to the program.
Belmont returns to action on Friday, April 14 on the road at Jacksonville State. Match time is slated for Noon.
