NASHVILLE, Tenn. - - Belmont University men's basketball returns to game action Saturday vs. Austin Peay.
Belmont defeated Murray State, 79-72, Jan. 18. Junior Dylan Windler (Indianapolis, Ind.) scored 21 points for the Bruins.
Windler ranks among OVC leaders in eight statistical categories, including first in rebounding (9.0) and fifth in scoring (16.7). He has 10 double-doubles this season.
Senior Austin Luke (Rowlett, Texas) also had 21 points vs. Murray State. Luke, the nation's leading returning assist man, currently ranks ninth nationally in assists per game (7.1). He recently passed Kerron Johnson ('13) to become Belmont's NCAA Division I era career leader in assists.
Junior Mack Mercer (Plymouth, Ind.) has five double figure scoring games this season, including his 15-point, seven-rebound performance vs. Murray State. Mercer scored a season-high 19 points vs. Green Bay (12/2/17).
Belmont's 89-83 victory at Austin Peay (1/17/15) was the 700th career victory for Belmont head coach Rick Byrd. Senior Tyler Hadden (Cincinnati, Ohio) scored a career-high 13 points in that game.
Belmont associate head coach Brian Ayers is a Clarksville, Tennessee native, who served on the Governors' coaching staff during the 1995-96 season while earning his master's degree.
This marks the 47th meeting between Belmont and Austin Peay, 20th of the Bruins' NCAA Division I era. Belmont won, 82-77, last season at Austin Peay.
