NASHVILLE, Tenn. - - Belmont University men's basketball returns to game action Saturday vs. Morehead State.
Belmont defeated Eastern Kentucky, 84-73, Feb. 15. Senior Amanze Egekeze (Lake in the Hills, Ill.) scored a team-high 19 points and added 10 rebounds for his second consecutive double-double.
The 6-8 forward has 61 career double figure scoring games and ranks among OVC leaders in eight statistical categories, including fourth in scoring (16.9) and 3-point field goals made (76).
Senior Austin Luke (Rowlett, Texas) had 19 points and seven assists vs. Eastern Kentucky. Luke, the nation's leading returning assist man, ranks sixth nationally in assists per game (7.2) and fourth in total assists (201). The 6-3 guard is Belmont's NCAA Division I era career assist leader and currently ranks seventh among all active college basketball players in career assists (636).
Junior Dylan Windler (Indianapolis, Ind.) has emerged as one of the top two-way players in college basketball. Windler had 13 points, seven rebounds and four assists vs. Eastern Kentucky. He is within five of the Belmont NCAA Division I era single-season record for double-doubles of 17 (Adam Sonn, 2003). Windler stands among NCAA leaders in double-doubles (12) and defensive rebounds (199), and has been named NCAA.com National Player of the Week and two-time OVC Player of the Week.
Junior Kevin McClain (Jennings, Fla.) has continued his outstanding play this season, scoring 15 points vs. Eastern Kentucky. The 6-2 guard has 20 double figure scoring games this season, and is averaging 13.9 points per game in league games. McClain had 25 points at Morehead State earlier this season (2/3/18).
Senior Burton Sampson (Knoxville, Tenn.) delivered another clutch performance vs. Eastern Kentucky, tallying six points in 11 minutes. Sampson had eight points Feb. 10 at Tennessee Tech, including a pair of late free throws.
Belmont (Ian Clark, New Orleans Pelicans) and Morehead State (Kenneth Faried, Denver Nuggets) each have a former player in the NBA. In fact, Clark and Faried were teammates on the Denver Nuggets for two months at the end of the 2014-15 season.
Junior Mack Mercer (Plymouth, Ind.) has scored in double figures in four of his five career games vs. Morehead State, including a freshman season-high 17 points.
This marks the 13th meeting between Belmont and Morehead State. Belmont won, 83-73, on Feb. 3 in Morehead, Kentucky.
