CLINTON, S.C. - - Belmont University men's tennis defeated Presbyterian, 4-3, Saturday.
The Bruins had to rally back after uncharacteristically dropping the doubles' point.
After convincing straight-set wins at first and sixth singles, respectively, from seniors Felix Rauch (Osterode, Germany) and Vincent Sterkens (Antwerp, Belgium) Belmont worked back into the match.
It was high drama as three matches went to decisive third sets.
However, juniors Marko Ilic (Zagreb, Croatia) and Taisei Miyamoto (Chiba, Japan) came up with the goods late to propel Belmont to victory.
"Despite the slow start in doubles, I thought we did a good job for our first match outdoors," Belmont Director of Tennis Mauricio Antun said. "It took a little while to adjust, but we started clicking as singles got going. At the end Marko (Ilic) pulled out a tough win against a good opponent."
Belmont (5-3) returns to match action Sunday at Wofford. First serve is slated for 11 a.m. CT.
