NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The Belmont baseball team continues OVC play at Rose Park starting on Friday at 4 p.m., facing UT Martin in a three-game series.
Belmont is coming off an eight-game winning streak and its fifth walk-off win of the season on Tuesday against Toledo.
"It's a very exciting team to be a part of," sophomore Tommy Crider said. "We have a lot of chemistry that I have never experienced on any other team. The recognition is good, but at the same time we have confidence in ourselves no matter what anybody else has to say about us."
The Bruins had one of the greatest offensive performances in program history against the Skyhawks on March 29, 2015, scoring 34 runs. Belmont recorded eight doubles and recorded 12 home runs that day, with four players recording two home runs each.
Belmont has dominated the overall series 43-24, sweeping the previous two years and winning the last seven matchups against UT Martin. The Skyhawks have not beaten the Bruins in Nashville since 2010.
"No matter how many runs we're down, we're going to have a chance to win," sophomore John Behrends said. "That's just the character we have on this team. It's a brotherhood."
Belmont has embraced their trademark as the comeback kids, with eight of its 14 wins being come-from-behind victories. The Bruins have trailed by at least five runs twice this season, most recently on March 10 against Toledo.
Down by six runs and trailing 7-2 in the fifth inning, Belmont scored six unanswered runs to defeat the Rockets.
"To our team's credit, they didn't let mistakes ruin their day," head coach Dave Jarvis said. "They found a way to come back and get the job done. To me, you attribute that to great team leadership and you give credit to our captains and our upperclassmen."
