NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- The annual Vanderbilt Black and Gold meet lies ahead for the Belmont Women's Track and Field team this weekend.
One clear advantage of competing in your own city is the lack of wear and tear from travel and the added familiarity of getting a good night's rest in your own home.
"It will be nice to be in our own beds and being able to control all the variables like where we eat and sleep," said Belmont's Director of Track & Field Jeff Langdon. "Our athletes should be set up really well to perform at a high level this weekend."
Sophomore Maddie Quinn (Bible Hill, Canada) leads the Ohio Valley Conference in the Javelin with a personal record of 46.70m. After a week of not competing, Quinn and the other throwers should be ready to go this week.
"Our Javelin throwers had a week off," said Assistant Coach Joe Frye. "They are now ready to take advantage of the good weather and extra practice."
The Bruins will face off against competitors from host-Vanderbilt, Ball State, Butler, Southern Illinois, Xavier (Ohio), and OVC foes Austin Peay, Murray State, Southeast Missouri State, Tennessee Tech and UT Martin.
With the conference championship quickly approaching, all of the Bruins will be looking to turn in qualifying marks in their respective events.
"We are trying to move the markers in the right direction. We are trying to drop some times and make some throws and jump a few bars," said Langdon.
The Vanderbilt Black & Gold meet runs April 16-17. Live results will be available.
