NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The Belmont University Women's Track & Field team competed in the Commodore Winter Challenge at Vanderbilt University over the weekend, their first indoor meet of the season.
The Bruins were represented in six different events, alongside athletes from Tennessee, Kentucky, Vanderbilt, Arkansas State, Lipscomb, Austin Peay, and more.
Record-setter
Alexa Fortman placed 2nd in her first collegiate 1000m race with a time of 2:54.74.
Returning thrower
Kierstin Roy placed 5th after advancing to the finals in the women's shot put. Her farthest throw was 13.13m.
Freshman thrower
Gifty Bediako had an impressive debut, placing 7th in the weight throw and 13th in the shot put.
Three Belmont athletes competed in the 300m, led by
Jennifer Mims who placed 20th out of 53 runners with a time of 40.32.
The team returns to action next month in the Vanderbilt Invitational at Vanderbilt Multipurpose Facility on Jan. 16-17.
