OXFORD, Ohio - - Belmont University women's track and field recorded a number of fine showings at the Redhawk Invitational hosted by Miami (OH) University Saturday.
Mother Nature played her part as cold, rainy conditions greeted competitors to George L. Rider Track.
That being said, Belmont maintained momentum from recent meets, with six Top 5 performances.
Most notably, freshman Rebekah Stucker (Odessa, Mo.) won the discus with a new personal record distance of 46.77m. She also placed fourth in the shot put and sixth in the hammer throw.
"Rebekah made some really good adjustments heading into the discus finals, and came out with consistently great throws," Assistant Coach Joe Frye said. "I'm very happy with where she is at this point in the season."
Senior Jessica Mattsson (Tierp, Sweden) placed third in the hammer throw with a mark of 56.61m, while junior Tyra Finkeldey (Old Saybrook, Conn.) finished third in the pole vault with a clearance of 3.71m.
On the distance side, freshman Maddy Malczewski (Washington, Mich.) made her outdoor 1500 meters debut and placed fifth in 4:41.32. Sophomore Katie Flaherty (Colorado Springs, Colo.) also ran a personal best in the same event.
The Bruins will be in split squad action next weekend at the University of Tennessee and the University of Saint Mary (Kan.).
