Tennessee Challenge Preview

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - - Belmont University women's track and field returns to competition Saturday at the Tennessee Challenge hosted by the University of Tennessee.

Belmont delivered six Top 5 performances last weekend at the Redhawk Invitational hosted by Miami (OH) University, highlighted by freshman Rebekah Stucker (Odessa, Mo.) and her event victory in the discus.

The Bruin women rank Top 3 in the Ohio Valley Conference in 11 events, and could see multiple event victories from Stucker and senior Adreanna Parlette (Nashville, Tenn.).

Parlette, whose long jump standard of 6.50m at the Joey Haines Invitational ranks 12th nationally, is also well-positioned in the OVC in the 100m hurdles and high jump.

"This weekend in Knoxville is all about preparation for conference," said Belmont Assistant Coach Joe Frye. "It's about gaining confidence, fine-tuning technique and putting hard work from training into action. We have high expectations on the women's side come conference, and competing with a purpose this weekend will go a long way towards performing when it matters most."

Belmont, currently 21st in the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) South Region poll, will face a collection of competition from the Southeastern Conference, Atlantic Coast Conference, Conference USA and the Atlantic Sun Conference.

With entries eying NCAA regional meet qualifying standards, Frye anticipates a highly-competitive meet.

"When you see the likes of Tennessee, Auburn, Clemson, Louisville and Virginia Tech in the field, you know you have to bring your best,' Frye added.

The Tennessee Challenge is slated to begin late morning Saturday from Tom Black Track at LaPorte Stadium.
