NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The Belmont University baseball team dropped the first game of its Ohio Valley Conference series to SEMO 12-0 on Friday at Rose Park.

SEMO's pitching held Belmont to just three hits, with Redhawks' pitcher Dylan Dodd striking out eight Bruin batters in seven innings pitched. SEMO's Fischer Rausch closed out the game with four strikeouts in two innings pitched for the Redhawks.

The Redhawks strung together four singles to start the top of the third inning, taking a quick 2-0 lead. SEMO added to its lead later in the inning, scoring a pair of runs off two Belmont fielding errors to double its advantage.

Two leadoff singles in the top of the third inning allowed SEMO to add another run, scoring off a fielder's choice to make it 5-0. SEMO opened the gap in the top of the sixth inning, scoring seven runs.

A leadoff walk and a double got the inning started, with SEMO scoring two runs off a fielder's choice and an RBI single. The Redhawks drew a walk and a hit-by-pitch to load the bases, following that up with four straight batters drawing either a walk or a hit-by-pitch to extend the lead to double digits. SEMO capped off its scoring run with a groundout to third base to drive in the 12th run of the game to close out the inning.

Belmont managed to get two hits in the final three innings of play, but SEMO forced out the Bruins' final five batters to seal the game one win.
