CHARLESTON, Ill. - - Belmont University women's track and field roared out of the gates Thursday on Day 1 of the 2021 Ohio Valley Conference Outdoor Championships at Eastern Illinois University.
Much like her teammate Drake Mitchell in the men's decathlon, senior Adreanna Parlette (Nashville, Tenn.) got Belmont established right away. Dominant victories in the 100 meter hurdles and high jump followed by a second place showing in the 200 meters gave Parlette a commanding 118 point lead through four events in the heptathlon.
With little time to spare, Parlette sprung back into action in the women's long jump taking gold with little challenge in a winning mark of 6.15m.
Moments later, junior Jessica Mattsson (Tierp, Sweden) kept the Bruins atop the medal podium, earning gold in the hammer throw with a standard of 59.30m.
The evening was capped off with a pleasant result as freshman Maddy Malczewski (Washington, Mich.) earned third in the 10,000 meters in a time of 37:32.21.
Senior Caroline Pruitt (Allen, Texas) highlighted preliminary heat action, qualifying first for the 400 meter hurdles finals with a time of 1:01.43.
Senior Halle Hausman (Johnson City, Tenn.) and sophomore Lily Hallum (Mason, Ohio) paced themselves in the 1,500 meter qualifier.
Daily and on demand video streams from O'Brien Field will be available on ESPN+.
Belmont fans are invited to follow the program's official social media accounts for updates throughout the meet.
