CHARLESTON, Ill. - - Belmont University women's track and field continued its strong performances on Day 2 of the 2021 Ohio Valley Conference Outdoor Championships at Eastern Illinois University.
Three more podiums enabled the Bruins to build upon their lead heading into the final day of competition.
Senior Adreanna Parlette (Nashville, Tenn.) backed up her Thursday gold in the long jump with a courageous performance in the heptathlon. Only remarkable efforts from her Eastern Kentucky competitor in the javelin and 800 meters denied Parlette a second gold, by a mere 15 points.
Eight more big points were quickly put on the board courtesy of junior Tyra Finkeldey (Old Saybrook, Conn.) and her second-place finish in the pole vault.
Parlette and senior Jeanette Morley (Elmhurst, Ill.) each placed Top 7 in the high jump to accumulate five more points.
Perhaps the highlight of Friday was freshman Rebekah Stucker (Odessa, Mo.) and her resounding victory in the discus, with a standard of 48.71m.
In prelims, Parlette confidently advanced in the 100 meter hurdles, while senior Payton Barlow (White House, Tenn.) cruised in her 400 meter heat. Sophomore Lily Hallum (Mason, Ohio) also won her heat in the 800 meters.
Freshman Grace Litzinger (Fayetteville, Tenn.) capped the day with a clutch effort and a fifth-place showing in the steeplechase.
Daily and on demand video streams from O'Brien Field will be available on ESPN+.
