NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- With an 11-1 win over Middle Tennessee State on Wednesday night, Belmont University head baseball coach Dave Jarvis recorded his 1,000th career win.
The victory is the 676th in Jarvis' Belmont tenure, adding to the 324 wins he earned while head coach at Three Rivers Community College. Jarvis is currently 34th in wins among all active coaches at the NCAA Division I level (676).
Last season, Jarvis became the all-time winningest coach in program history, passing Dave Whitten.
Over the course of their four-game winning streak, Belmont (4-1) has given up just three runs to opponents. Entering the contest, the Bruins were 16th nationally in team ERA (1.41).
Grayson Taylor finished 3-for-4 with a career-high four RBIs, helping power a potent Belmont offense that has collected 53 hits in their first five contests.
Zuger got the start and went three strong innings, scattering five hits with only one run allowed. He was replaced in the fourth inning by sophomore Lane Lamberth (W, 1-0), who tossed two shutout frames with only two hits allowed and no walks.
Guisewite and Harden both threw scoreless innings in relief, combining for three strikeouts. Dusty Baird walked two Blue Raiders in the eighth inning but did not give up a run.
On the night, Bruin pitchers combined for just four strikeouts but scattered only seven hits, relying on stellar defense behind them.
Belmont's offense got started quickly, with Brodey Heaton doubling down the left-field line with two outs in the first inning. After Logan Jarvis worked a walk, Carson Shacklett singled to drive in Heaton for the game's first run.
After Middle Tennessee evened up the score at 1-1 in the top of the second inning, the Bruins broke up the tie with a three-run fourth inning. First, Guy Lipscomb drove in Jack Capobianco with a single to left field before John Behrends brought home Grayson Taylor with a base hit through the right side.
The Bruins then orchestrated a well-timed double steal that scored Lipscomb while advancing Behrends to second base.
From there, the floodgates opened, both in the sky with a pouring rain and on the diamond with Belmont's offense piling up seven more runs.
Taylor, Jarvis, and Jackson Campbell all picked up RBIs before the game was called in the eighth inning due to weather.
Heaton, Campbell, and Jarvis all finished with two hits each.
The Bruins return to E.S. Rose Park on Friday to begin a four-game series against Youngstown State. First pitch on Friday is set for 4 p.m. The game will be broadcast on the Bruin Sports Network, with Dr. Rich Tiner providing live play-by-play.
