NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- The Belmont University baseball team dropped their series finale with Tennessee Tech on Sunday, 8-1, to close out the weekend at E.S. Rose Park.
Belmont (21-11, 7-2 OVC) clinched the series by winning on Friday, 8-7, and on Saturday, 4-1, before dropping Sunday's contest.
Jalen Borders (L, 2-2) provided a quality start on the mound, going six innings while allowing two earned runs and collecting five strikeouts.
The Bruin offense was stymied to just one run, the fewest runs they've scored in a game all season, on five hits, the fewest they've tallied since March 13 in a loss to UAB.
Mason Landers was the only Bruin to pick up multiple hits, going 2-for-3. Belmont batters left nine men on base.
Belmont struck first in the first inning, with John Behrends doubling down the left-field line before advancing to third base on a wild pitch.
Guy Lipscomb then sent a fly ball deep to center field, allowing Behrends to tag and give Belmont a 1-0 lead.
From there, it was all Golden Eagles, as the visitors went out to a 3-1 lead heading into the sixth inning.
With Borders out of the game, Tennessee Tech erupted for five runs in the seventh to put the game away, including two home runs, one off Aaron Hubbell and one off Dusty Baird.
Even with the loss, Belmont has won each of their first three conference series this season (Austin Peay, Murray State, and Tennessee Tech), and is tied for second in the OVC at 7-2 with preseason favorite Southeast Missouri.
Belmont will travel to Tuscaloosa, Ala., on Tuesday for a midweek tilt with the University of Alabama. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m. The game will be streamed on SEC Network+, and live audio play-by-play will be broadcast on the Bruin Sports Network.
