HUNTINGTON, W. Va. – Buoyed by three golfers among the top-20, the Belmont men's golf team stands in fourth place after day one of the Joe Feaganes Marshall Invitational held Monday at Guyan Golf and Country Club in Huntington, West Virginia.
The Bruins posted rounds of 284 and 282 on Monday to finish the day in fourth place with a 36-hole mark of 566. Appalachian State has the team lead at 550. Host Marshall is in second place at 563, while Eastern Michigan stands in third place at 565.
Three Belmont golfers are among the top-20 after two rounds of play. Freshman
Jack Schoenberger leads BU as he is tied for 12
th place at 141. In his first collegiate tournament, the Milton, Georgia native carded rounds of 69 and 72 to put himself five shots back of the individual leader, Marshall's Tyler Jones (136).
Graduate student Jack Bultman and sophomore Michael Senn are one shot back of Schoenberger and tied for 18
th place with a score of 142. Bultman, in his first tournament as a Bruin, shot a 76 in round one, but bounced back with a five-under par 66 in round two. His 66 included seven birdies and just two bogeys. Senn, an Arkansas native, posted rounds of 69 and 73 during Monday's play.
Juniors
Reeve Felner and
Patrick Brooks are each tied for 34
th place with a 36-hole mark of 145. Felner shots rounds of 72 and 73, while Brooks carded a 74 and 71.
The third and final round will begin Tuesday morning at 7:30am. The Bruins will start off on holes 1-5. Live scoring of the tournament can be found at BelmontBruins.com or Golfstat.com.
