Men's Tennis Takes on Nashville’s SEC Team Sunday

Bruins Make the Short Trip Down the Road to Face Vanderbilt

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Putting its perfect 5-0 record on the line, the Belmont University men's tennis team heads approximately one mile northwest Sunday afternoon to face Southeastern Conference stalwart Vanderbilt. The non-conference match between the undefeated Bruins and the Commodores (2-3) is slated for a 3:30 p.m. first serve from Vanderbilt's Brownlee O. Currey Jr. Tennis Pavilion.

Both live streaming and live scoring of Sunday afternoon's match will be available.

After playing four of its first five matches at home indoors at the Ensworth Tennis Center, Belmont begins a treacherous four-match road stretch. Including the Commodores, three of the Bruins' next four opponents are Power Five conference members.

Last Sunday, Belmont won its fifth straight with a 5-2 victory over visiting UNC Asheville. After claiming the doubles point, the Bruins won four of the top five singles matches against the Bulldogs.

Undefeated on the season at the top doubles spot, graduate student Marko Ilic and junior Riccardo Trione were selected as Horizon League Doubles Team of the Week for a second time this past Wednesday after earning another convincing 6-2 win versus UNC Asheville last weekend. Both Trione and junior Tomas Luis are also 5-0 on the year in singles action.

On Feb. 18 of last year, Belmont dropped a 6-1 decision at Vanderbilt. The Bruins won at No. 2 doubles and collected a point in singles when sophomore Ian Cruz earned a 6-4, 6-2 win at the fourth spot.

The Commodores enter the weekend following back-to-back home victories over Tennessee State (6-0) and Rice (6-1). Vanderbilt began the season 0-3 with losses to USC (4-2) and Memphis (4-3) in Los Angeles and a 4-2 setback against Princeton in the Music City.

The Commodores battle Florida Atlantic Saturday afternoon and host Oklahoma State Sunday morning before welcoming Belmont on campus.

Up Next
The Bruins continue their strenuous road stretch next weekend in Louisville, Kentucky, where Belmont will visit nationally-ranked Louisville Saturday before heading to Bellarmine Sunday.
