COAL VALLEY, Ill. – Led by three golfers in the top-10, the Belmont men's golf team stands in third place after the first round of the Missouri Valley Conference Championship held Sunday at Oakwood Country Club in Coal Valley, Illinois.
Dealing with cloudy and cold conditions with wind chills in the 30s, the Bruins played steady throughout the day, posting a first round score of 284 to finish the day in third place. Illinois State has the lead at 276, while Valparaiso is in second at 279. Through 18 holes, BU leads the field in birdies with 16 and ranks among the top-three in par 3 scoring, par 5 scoring, and pars.

Reeve Felner are all tied for ninth place as each shot a one-under par 70 on Sunday. They are five shots back of the individual leader, Felix van Dijk of Illinois State, who shot a six-under par 65, the lowest round at a MVC Championship since 1956.
Graduate student
Winston Margaritis is tied for 28
th place after carding a three-over par 74, while freshman
Conner Brown is one shot back of Margaritis and in a tie for 32
nd at 75.
The second round will begin at 9:00am Monday morning with groups going off both the first and 10
th tees. Belmont will tee off the first hole from 9:00-9:40am with Illinois State and Valparaiso.
