LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Paced by Michael Senn's first career individual title, the Belmont men's golf team finished in a tie for sixth place at the Ernie Denham Classic held this week at The Standard Club in Louisville, Kentucky.
Senn earned medalist honors for the first time in his career by carding a final round 67 to finish the event with a score of 208, edging runner-up and Alex Doss of Northern Kentucky by three shots. His final round scorecard included two eagles, two birdies, and one lone bogey.
The Bentonville, Arkansas native becomes the seventh different Bruin in the Division I era to win an individual title and he first since
Evan Davis won the 2021 OVC Championship. His -11 score in relation to par is the seventh lowest in the Division I era, while his 54-hole score of 205 is the 10
th lowest in the same time period. This is his second top-10 finish of the spring season.
His team shot a final round team score of 291 to finish the event in a tie for sixth place with Bowling Green at 876. Northern Kentucky won the team title with a score of 869, Southern Indiana and Murray State tied for second at 869.
One other Bruin finished among the top-20. Freshman
Jack Schoenberger posted his fifth top-20 finish as he tied for 14
th place at 218. He shot a final round 73 on Tuesday.
Juniors
Reeve Felner and
Patrick Brooks both tied for 41
st place at 227. Felner shot a final round 74, while Brooks posted a 78.
Graduate student
Joe Bultman tied for 70
th place at 219.
Two Bruins competed as individuals. Graduate student
Winston Margaritis tied for 17
th place at 219, while senior
Alex Whitehead tied for 64
th at 234.
The men's golf team is back in action next Monday and Tuesday at the TSU Big Blue Intercollegiate at Nashville's Hermitage Golf Course.
