Women's Hoops Set for Italy Tour

Bruins Embark on First Foreign Tour, to Spend 10 Days in Italy

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Belmont University women's basketball program will embark on its first European tour with a 10-day trip to Italy from Saturday, July 29 – Tuesday, Aug. 8. An outstanding educational opportunity, the Bruins will gain a unique cultural experience while touring Italy's most iconic historical landmarks.

"Our program is incredibly blessed to have this opportunity," said head coach Bart Brooks. "This will be a once in a lifetime trip to experience a new culture while visiting some of the world's most historical places. One of the best things about working at Belmont is helping our athletes understand their value extends way beyond the basketball court. This trip will allow us to represent Belmont abroad as members of the leading Christ-centered university in the world."

With stays in Rome, Florence, Venice and Como, Belmont will play two exhibition games during their opening stop in Rome. The Bruins will be making their first international trip since 2018 when Belmont journeyed to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, for missions work. Belmont also took a mission trip to Rio in 2015 and members of the women's basketball team went on a mission trip to Naples, Italy, in 2011.

Partnering with World Sports Travel for the trip, the Bruins' stay in Rome will be highlighted by tours of the Rome Squares, Trevi Fountain, Spanish Steps, the Vatican City, including the Sistine Chapel and St. Peter's Basilica, the Colosseum, and the Roman Forum. Belmont will take on the Italy All-Stars and Rome All-Stars in exhibition contests before continuing on to La Siesta Beach. A visit to the Leaning Tower of Pisa will precede the Bruins' stop in Florence.

Traversing to Venice by train, Belmont's stay in Venice will include exploring Piazza San Marco and a gondola ride through the city. While in Venice, the Bruins will take part in community service before heading to Milan. From Milan, Belmont will travel to Como where the Bruins will visit scenic Bellagio via boat. Como will serve as Belmont's final destination in Italy.
