Jailyn Banks Earns Third Consecutive, Sixth Overall MVC Freshman of the Week Award

Standout Guard Has Scored at Least 12 Points in Six of Her Last Seven Outings

ST. LOUIS – For the third-straight week, Belmont University women's basketball's Jailyn Banks has been named Missouri Valley Conference Freshman of the Week as announced by the league office Tuesday morning. The weekly conference award is the talented guard's sixth of the season and comes after Banks averaged double-figure scoring in the Bruins' pair of games in Iowa over the weekend.
 
Banks was also selected as the Valley's freshman of the week the first two weeks of the season (Nov. 13 and Nov. 20) and earned the weekly plaudit on Dec. 11 for her play the week of Dec. 4-10. The Spring Hill, Tennessee (Middle Tennessee Christian School), native has been tabbed MVC Freshman of the Week three of the four weeks of MVC play.
 
Across road matchups at Drake and Northern Iowa, Banks averaged 12.5 points, 5.0 assists and 4.0 rebounds. On Sunday afternoon in Belmont's gritty, 72-67 win over the Panthers, Banks poured in 13 points, distributed a career-high tying six assists, collected six rebounds and came up with a steal. In the Bruins' narrow setback against the Bulldogs Friday evening, Banks scored 12 points and dished out four assists. She went 2-for-5 from beyond the arc at Drake and was 2-for-2 at the foul line.
 
Reaching double figures in 13 of her first 18 games, Banks has recorded at least three assists in 12 consecutive contests and scored at least 12 points in six of her last seven outings.
 
Belmont returns to game action and begins a three-game homestand this Friday night with Missouri State. Tipoff from the Curb Event Center is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. with the MVC home matchup broadcast on ESPN+.
 
The Bruins welcome Southern Illinois to the Music City Sunday afternoon for a 2 p.m. tip.
