Chicago, Ill. – On its first day of competition at the Missouri Valley Conference Indoor Championships, Belmont women's track and field made its presence known.Â
The Bruins collected five total podium finishes and currently sit in second place in the field of 12 teams with 41 total points.Â
Top Performing Bruins
Logan Gray headlined for the Bruins as she claimed a silver medal in the shot but with a throw of 19.38m (63' 7"), giving Belmont eight points.
Grace Litzinger earned a silver medal in the 5000m with a blazing time of 17:08.05, giving the Bruins eight points.Â
Rebekah Stucker claimed third place in the weight throw with a heave of 19.36m (63' 6.25"), earning six points for the Bruins.Â
Tyra Finkeldey clinched third in pole vault, clearing a height of 3.85m, earning six points for Belmont.Â
The women's distance medley relay squad (Rachel Soukup, Sarah Richmond, Alexa Fortman and Brooke Garter) secured second place with a program record time of 11:38.67, giving the Bruins eight more points.Â
Other Notable Finishes
Emma García Palencia finished fourth in the pentathlon with 3,515 total points including a second place finish in shot put and a third place finish in the 800m.
Emory Moore secured a spot in Monday's 200m finals with a time of 24.57 in the prelims.
Alexa Fortman secured a spot in Monday's 800m finals with a time of 2:13.54 in the prelims.
Brooke Garter (4:54.23) in third place and Brooke Stromsland (4:55.51) in ninth, both secured spots in Monday's mile finals.
Next Up
The Bruins will return to action tomorrow on the final day of the championships. The first Bruins will showcase their talent in the women's shot put beginning at approximately 12:30 p.m.
