Tuti Jones and Tessa Miller Named to MVC Scholar-Athlete First Team

ST. LOUIS – Belmont University women's basketball senior guard Tuti Jones and junior forward Tessa Miller have been selected to the Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete First Team as announced by the conference office Tuesday afternoon. Both hold near perfect cumulative grade point averages and have started all 31 games for the Bruins this season.
 
It marks the second consecutive year Miller has been tabbed MVC Scholar-Athlete after landing a spot on the second team last March.
 
Set to graduate in May with her bachelor's degree in sport administration, Jones intends to pursue her master's degree in sport administration beginning this fall. Minoring in nutrition, Jones holds a 3.95 cumulative GPA. The Troy, Alabama (Charles Henderson HS), native recently surpassed 1,000 career points and is only two steals shy of breaking Belmont's NCAA era career steals record. She has accumulated 243 career steals in a little over three seasons of play. Jones is averaging 11.2 points, 4.2 rebounds, a team-best 4.1 assists and 2.4 steals per game this season.
 
Majoring in legal studies and minoring in business administration and corporate communication, Miller owns a 3.98 cumulative GPA. A native of Crossville, Tennessee (Stone Memorial HS), Miller has scored in double figures in 25 of 31 games this season, distributed at least three assists 19 times and surpassed 20 points in four of her last seven outings. She leads the team in scoring (14.4 PPG) this year and is averaging 6.4 rebounds and 3.2 assists per game.
 
The Bruins take a season-best six-game winning streak into the 2024 MVC Tournament as the No. 2 seed.
 
The Hoops in the Heartland championship, held at Vibrant Arena at The MARK in Moline, Illinois, gets underway Thursday. Second-seeded Belmont has earned a first-round bye to the quarterfinals and will face either seventh-seeded University of Illinois Chicago or 10th-seeded Valparaiso Friday at 6 p.m. The MVC Tournament quarterfinal matchup will be broadcast on ESPN+.
