Saturday, April 20 | 1:00 p.m.
Beaman Family Tennis Complex | Nashville, Tenn.
Â
NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Undefeated in Horizon League play, the Belmont University men's tennis team hosts in-state rival Tennessee Tech Saturday afternoon. First serve from the Beaman Family Tennis Complex in the Music City is scheduled for 1 p.m.
Â
Saturday's pivotal league match is senior day for the Bruins, who will recognize
Ruben Busch,
Ian Cruz,
Tomas Luis,
Gabriel Sardo,
Riccardo Trione,
Niklas von Hellens and
Alfred Wallin for their contributions to the program following the contest.
Â
Belmont (9-9, 4-0 Horizon), now in its second year in the Horizon League, has yet to lose a conference match. The Bruins have gone 14-0 in Horizon League play since joining the league and enter the final weekend of the season a perfect 4-0 this year.
Â
Belmont has defeated the Golden Eagles (3-10, 3-0 Horizon) in each of its last three matchups with Tennessee Tech, most recently in last year's Horizon League Championship title match. The Bruins topped the Golden Eagles 4-1 to win their second conference tournament championship in three seasons.
Â
Belmont also conquered Tennessee Tech 5-2 at the Beaman Family Tennis Complex to clinch the 2022 Ohio Valley Conference regular season title.
Â
A victory on Saturday would see the Bruins secure their second-straight Horizon League South Division championship. It would be Belmont's third consecutive conference regular season title and the program's sixth since joining the NCAA Division I ranks.
Â
A win over the Golden Eagles Saturday would also clinch the No. 1 seed in the South Division at next weekend's Horizon League Championship.
Â
Luis is only one win away from becoming the Bruins' all-time singles victory leader. He is currently tied with
Marko Ilic (2018-21, 2022-23) for the most-ever by a Belmont player with 73 singles wins.
Â
Tennessee Tech had its three-match winning streak to begin Horizon League play snapped when it stepped out of conference last week. The Golden Eagles dropped a 5-2 decision to UNC Asheville last Sunday in Cookeville, Tennessee, before falling 4-1 at home to New Mexico State last Wednesday.
Â
A 6-1 road triumph at Southern Indiana earlier this month is Tennessee Tech's lone road win of the season. The Golden Eagles are hosting Tennessee State Friday afternoon further east on Interstate 40.
Â
Up Next
The Bruins will head to the Schwartz Tennis Center in West Lafayette, Indiana, next weekend for the 2024 Horizon League Men's Tennis Championship, held Friday-Sunday, April 26-28.
