TERRE HAUTE, Ind. - - Belmont University men's track & field got off to a positive start on Day 1 of the 2024 Missouri Valley Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships from the Gibson Track & Field Complex on the campus of Indiana State University.

The Bruins earned two podium finishes Friday, highlighted by
Carter Cheeseman earning gold in the 10,000m run. In his event debut, Cheeseman unleashed a dramatic final 200 meter kick to best Jayde Rosslee of Bradley in a time of 29:47.85.

In fact, with teammate Kaitlyn Vanderkolk's victory in the women's 10,000m, Belmont became the first school since 1994 to win both the men's and women's 10,000m races at the MVC Outdoor Championships.

Aidan Dinsbeer earned bronze in the pole vault with a mark of 4.50m.

Several Bruins also advanced to event finals with showings in Day 1 prelims, including
Tezz Dozier in the 200m,
Morgan Lewis and
Eric Toviave in the 400m hurdles and
Joel Wolf in the 1500m.
Belmont is in fifth place in the team standings heading into Saturday.
