Men's Track & Field Earns Six Podium Finishes at Conference Meet

Distance and Field Events Shine in Terre Haute

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. - - Belmont University Men's Track & Field returns from a successful weekend at the 2025 Missouri Valley Conference Outdoor Championships hosted at Gibson Track & Field Complex.

The Bruins saw success on Saturday, beginning with Tyler Nunn's performance in the 400m. Nunn qualified for finals with a time of 48.52, just hundredths of a second off his personal best. Nunn scored a point for Belmont by finishing eighth in the final on Sunday.

In the 3,000m steeplechase, Zach Brill's strong perfomance earned him second place and the Bruin men's first medal of the meet. This was Brill's best execution in the steeplechase this season, after also racing well at Raleigh Relays and the Bryan Clay Invite.

Sam Parker also earned a silver medal in the javelin throw on Saturday. Going into the final round Parker sat in fifth place, when an impressive season-best throw launched him into podium territory just behind Valparaiso's Brian Sponaugle.

The men's 10,000m on Saturday evening was an exciting race for the Bruins. Drew Brill and Andrew Hammel maintained their spots towards the head of the pack for most of the race. Then, during the last few laps, both athletes pulled ahead giving Belmont the one-two finish. Brill earned gold with his personal fastest time by over 20 seconds, and Hammel followed him across the line just 2 seconds later.

The Bruins sat in 3rd place in the team standing after day one of competition.

The 4x100m team of Jayden Gray, Tyler Nunn, Tezz Dozier, and Jayce Gray placed 4th in the first running event on Sunday.

Andrew Taylor put on quite the performance in the high jump, successfully clearing 2.08m. This height earned him silver, and placed his name in the Belmont record book as the new high jump record holder.

Matty Mackay marked the end of his career at Belmont with a 3rd place finish in the 5,000m, coming in nearly 10 seconds ahead of Bradley's Travis Gaffney.

Belmont finished seventh in the team standings with 59 points; Illinois State won the conference team title.
