AZUSA, Calif. -Â Belmont University Men's Track & Field turned in strong performances at the Bryan Clay Invitational April 16-17, hosted by Azusa Pacific University.
Â
Seven athletes raced for Belmont across the 3000m steeplechase, 800m, and 5000m. Despite concerns that fight delays and a late arrival on Wednesday night might affect performance, the Bruins pulled off some impressive times.
On Thursday night,
Sam Shuman,
Noah Epker, and
Zach Brill participated in the steeplechase, each securing their top rankings in the MVC with sub-9:20 times.
In the final push late Friday night,
Matty Mackay become the third Bruin in school history to post a sub-14:00 time in the 5000m. Finishing in 13:59.44, Mackay shaved 10 seconds off his record-breaking time from indoor season, and 20 seconds off his previous outdoor best. He now sits just seven seconds off the current outdoor school record.
Drew Brill also improved his time in the 5000m, running 14:25.56. Brill previously ranked 9th in the MVC with a time 14 seconds slower.
Belmont returns to action May 1-2 in the Outdoor Music City Challenge.
