LEXINGTON, Ky. – After two schedule changes due to rain and thunderstorms Thursday, the women's pole vault got underway Friday morning at the 2024 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships East First Round with graduate student
Tyra Finkeldey representing the Belmont University women's track and field program. The lone Bruin in action Friday at the University of Kentucky's outdoor track and field facility, Finkeldey put together a strong performance.
Finishing in the top 10 in her flight, Finkeldey cleared the opening height of 12 feet, 5.5 inches (3.80m) on her third and final attempt before surpassing 12 feet, 11.5 inches (3.95m) on her second vault at the extended height. Making her NCAA Outdoor Championships East Preliminary debut, Finkeldey nearly cleared a would-be school record of 13 feet, 5.25 inches (4.10m) on her second attempt. However, the Old Saybrook, Connecticut (Old Saybrook HS), native barely clipped the bar on her dismount.
Finkeldey placed 32nd overall.
