Women's Track and Field Closes Out Weekend at Vanderbilt Invitational

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - - The Belmont University Women's Track & Field team took part in the Vanderbilt Invitational over the weenweekended and with 10 top 10 placements.

Sophomore Carlota Salgado Garcia, senior Logan Gray and graduate student Rebekah Stucker all earned top 10 placements in two of their events.

Garcia won the high jump event with 1.71 meters and placed ninth in the long jump at 5.36 meters.

Gray earned seventh place in both the weight throw (19.87 meters) and shot put (14.97 meters).

Stucker finished in eighth place in the weight throw with a performance of 19.83 meters.

IStucker fought her way up to fifth place in the shot put with a  14.29 meters finish.

Alongside Garcia in the high jump, senior McKenna Prouty finished in second place with a 1.67-meter result.

Senior Nicola van der Merwe'd 3.38-meters performance in pole vault earned her sixth. 

Graduate students Brooke Garter and Grace Litzinger placed eighth and ninth respectively in the 3,000 meters; Garter ran a 9:31.04 and Litzinger ran a 9:35.56.

Sophomore Alexa Fortman - who broke a personal and program record for the 600 meters last week - ran in the 800m this weekend, placed 11th in the event with a time of 2:12.41.

The Bruins return to action at the end of the month for the PNC Lenny Lyles Invitational at Norton Healthcare Sports & Learning Center in Louisville, Ky.
