NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Belmont men's cross country aims for a regional title as they compete in the NCAA South Regional meet held the morning of Nov. 14 at the John Hunt Cross Country Running Park in Huntsville, Ala.
The Bruins enter this week's race ranked No. 14 in the region after a third-place finish at the Missouri Valley Championships on Oct. 31 in Evansville, Ind.
At that race, Belmont had three runners finish among the top 15.
Andrew Hammel led the way for the Bruins in fifth place with a time of 24:37.45, earning All-Conference honors.
Brothers Drew and
Zach Brill were key point earners, placing 12th and 14th with times under 25 minutes.
Throughout the season, the Belmont men's team placed 1st at the Belmont Opener, 8th at the Southern Showcase, and 9th at the Crimson Classic.
The top-two teams at this regional and the top-four runners who are not members of the top-two teams will automatically advance to the NCAA Championship.
Last season, the Bruins placed 11th overall, with four runners in the top 70.
Nick Mota led the Bruins in 42nd place.
Friday's men's NCAA South Regional, hosted by North Alabama will feature 35 teams.
The women's 6K begins at 8:30 a.m. CT with the men's 10K to follow at 9:30 a.m. CT.
