NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Belmont women's golf team opens up its fall season this Monday and Tuesday at The Velvet Classic in Paducah, Kentucky.
WHAT'S BRUIN
- The Bruins begin a new era this season under new head coach Nicole Page. Page comes to BU after three years as an assistant coach at Coastal Carolina.
- The squad returns seven players from last season's team and only have one newcomer, Meredith Eller, a native of Mt. Juliet, Tennessee.
- Leading the way for the Bruins is junior Sloane Biddle. The Midstate native was the MVC Golfer of the Year, won the MVC Individual Title, and became the first Bruin to earn a NCAA Regional berth. She set a school record with a scoring average of 73.4 and had seven top-10 finishes, including two individual titles.
- Senior Paige Hammarstrom ranked third on the team in scoring at 77.6 and had three top-20 finishes.
This week's The Velvet is a two-day, 54-hole event with 36 holes contested on Monday and 18 holes on Tuesday. The tournament honors former Murray State head coach, Velvet Milkman, and will be held at The Country Club of Paducah. The course will play to a par of 71 and length of 6076 yards.
The field features 13 teams and includes the likes of Austin Peay, Loyola-Chicago, UAB, Tennessee State, North Alabama, and two other MVC teams: host Murray State and Southern Illinois.
