NASHVILLE, Tenn. - - Former Belmont University men's basketball All-American Alex Renfroe ('09) has signed a professional playing contract with Coviran Granada in Spain, according to multiple media reports.
Renfroe, 36, embarks on his 14th professional season which has taken him to eight countries on three continents.
The veteran point guard averaged nine points and five assists per game for Hereda San Pablo Burgos in Spain last season.
Renfroe split time between Hereda San Pablo Burgos and Leones in 2020-21.
The 6-3 guard was named All-VTB League in Russia in 2019-20 for Zenit St. Petersburg when he averaged 10.5 points and 6.1 assists per game on 51 percent shooting.
Much like his championship-laden collegiate career, Renfroe has four won international championships, including the 2020 FIBA Champions League, 2019 Serbian Cup, 2013 German BBL League and the 2011 Croatian Cup.
Renfroe also played for Partizan NIS (Serbia), BAXI Manresa (Spain), Galatasaray (Turkey), FC Barcelona (Spain), FC Bayern Munich (Germany), Alba Berlin (Germany), Baskonia (Spain), Enisey Krasnoyarsk (Russia), Brose Bamberg (Germany), Valladolid (Spain), Enel Brindisi (Italy), KK Zagreb (Croatia) and VEF Riga (Latvia).
The Hermitage, Tennessee native earned Associated Press All-America, NABC and Basketball Times All-District and Atlantic Sun Conference Player of the Year honors in 2009, and was part of the Alba Berlin team that captured a stunning victory over the 2014 NBA Champion San Antonio Spurs in an exhibition game.
In 2009, Renfroe led the Bruins in scoring (16.2), rebounding (7.2), assists (5.1), blocked shots (0.5) and field goal percentage (.548) - believed to be the first college basketball player since Tim Duncan in 1997 to lead his team in all five categories.
Renfroe was also player of the game in Belmont's near-upset of second-seeded Duke in the 2008 NCAA Tournament.
