JACKSONVILLE, Ala. – The Belmont men's tennis team picked up their first win of the season as they defeated future OVC foe Jacksonville State 6-1 in a non-conference match played Saturday in Jacksonville, Alabama.
The Bruins picked up the first point of the match as they won two of the three doubles matches. Renato Antun and Rafael Matos won at number one over Nenad Marcec and Axel Sundberg 8-1, while at number two Rodrigo Amaral and Fernando Mussolini beat Jordan Cowling and Igor Santos 8-5.
In singles, the Bruins continued their solid play as they won five of the six matches. At number one Renato Antun beat Igor Santos 7-5, 2-6, 10-7, while at number two Rodrigo Amaral defeated Nenad Marcec 6-3, 6-2. Junior Henrique Norbiato won at number three, while at number five, Rafael Matos swept Felipe Watanabe in straight sets 7-5, 6-3. Junior Bruno Silva won at the number six position over Felipe Wenzel 6-3, 7-5.
Belmont (1-2) is back in action next Saturday, February 18th as the Bruins play at Louisville.
