Pair of Home Runs Push Baseball Past Buffalo

Box Score

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Behind two home runs, the Belmont Baseball (12-4, 2-1) powered past Buffalo on Tuesday afternoon, 9-2, at E.S. Rose Park.

This was the first time this season Belmont hit multi home runs in a game.

Buffalo got two across in the first inning to take a 2-0 lead. In the bottom half, Buffalo starter Cory Folk issues three straight walks before Josh Davis (Fayetteville, Ga.) reached on a fielder's choice to score the Bruins' first run.

Matt Beaty (Dresden, Tenn.) singled up the middle to score Drew Turner (Shelbyville, Tenn.) and Davis to put the Bruins on top, 3-2 after three innings.

In the fourth inning, the Bruins opened the game up as Judah Akers (Cookeville, Tenn.) hit a three-run home over the left field fence to give Belmont a 6-2 lead. That was Akers' fourth home run of the season.

Dom Veltri (Clarksville, Tenn.) hit his first collegiate home run in the bottom of the sixth to extend Belmont's lead to 7-2.

Drew Ferguson (Knoxville, Tenn.) doubled to right field and Turner reached after being hit by a pitch. With the bases loaded and nobody out, Davis stepped up the plate and fouled out to the Buffalo left fielder, but Ferguson was able to score.  Jared Breen (Marietta, Ga.) grounded out to the Bulls' third baseman but Turner scored on the play, putting Belmont up 9-2

Jessie Snodgrass (Lebanon, Tenn.) took the mound in the seventh. Dan Ludwig (Naperville, Ill.) ended his day after six innings on the hill. He allowed nine hits, two runs, walked two and struck out three. Snodgrass saw two innings of relief striking out two.

Scott Moses (Englewood, Tenn.) closed the game and struck out the first batter he faced.

Belmont will return to Rose Park on Friday with a split weekend series with Northern Illinois and Bradley.
