CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – Belmont Baseball (27-10, 14-3) fell to Austin Peay in game two of the series, 5-3 Saturday afternoon at Raymond C. Hand Park.
Alec Diamond (Kennesaw, Ga.) singled to left field to get the first hit for the Bruins and scored when Drew Turner (Shelbyville, Tenn.) lined out to the Austin Peay right fielder, giving Belmont an early 1-0 lead.
Scott Moses (Englewood, Tenn.) laid down a bunt single down the left field line to score Dom Veltri (Clarksville, Tenn.), who led off the second with a double down the right field line.
The Bruins took a 3-0 lead over Austin Peay in the fourth behind singles from Turner, Veltri and Moses before the Governors responded with a pair of runs in the bottom half to cut Belmont's lead to 3-2.
With a three run-inning in the bottom of the sixth, the Governors took a 5-3 lead that they wouldn't give up.
Austin Coley (Murfressboro, Tenn.) went five innings on the mound. The sophomore right hander gave up seven hits and 2 runs while striking out three.
Belmont will conclude the series with Austin Peay tomorrow at 1:00p.m.
