CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – Belmont Baseball (27-11, 14-4) dropped Sunday's rubber game at Austin Peay, 10-6.
This was the first time the Bruins lost a series this season.
A single from Austin Peay's Craig Massoni sparked a three-run inning for the Governors, as they jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the first.
Belmont put a threat together in the third with the bases loaded, but the runners were left standed.
The Governors came up with four more runs in the bottom of the third as they extended their lead, 4-0 behind a sacrifice fly from Reed Harper. A two-run home run from PJ Torres put Austin Peay ahead 7-0.
Belmont put together a two-out rally in the top of the fourth. Drew Ferguson (Knoxville, Tenn.) smashed a three-run home run over the left field fence to put the Bruins on the board, 7-3.
Austin Peay scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the fifth behind a double from Brett Carlson to take a 10-3 lead over the Bruins.
An RBI single from Drew Turner (Shelbyville, Tenn.) up the middle scored Alec Diamond(Kennesaw, Ga.) who reached on a single to right center.
Spencer Petett (Tompkinsville, Ky.) cut Austin Peay's lead, 10-6 with a two-run home run out to left center in the top of the eighth after Scott Moses (Englewood, Tenn.) led off the inning with a single.
James Buckelew (Lawrenceville, Ga.) matched a career high of five strikeouts during his 2.2 innings of work.
Jessie Snodgrass (Lebanon, Tenn.) pitched two innings of relief and recorded a new career high of five strikeouts.
Belmont will return home to E.S. Rose Park to host Lipscomb on Tuesday, April 23. The first pitch is scheduled for 5:00pm.
