NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Bruins dropped their midweek contest with No.3 Vanderbilt, 8-4 Tuesday night at Rose Park.
Vanderbilt's Bryan Reynold's hit a solo homer in the top of the fourth to put the Commodores on the board, 1-0.
The Bruins answered in the bottom half behind a triple from Greg Brody (Dacula, Ga.). A sacrifice fly from Matt Kinney (Alpharetta, Ga.) allowed Brody to score and tie the game at 1-1.
Three costly Belmont errors allowed the Commodores to score three in the top of the fifth and take 4-1 lead. Behind a two-run home run, Vanderbilt added three more runs in the sixth.
A double from pinch hitter Nolan Rogers added one more for the 'Dores in the seventh to take a 8-1 lead.
In the bottom of the eighth, Scott Moses (Englewood, Tenn.) came off the bench and hit a two-run home run, and cut Vanderbilt's lead, 8-3.
The Bruins added one more in the bottom of the ninth behind an RBI single from Jamie Ritchie (Buford, Ga.).
James Buckelew (Lawrenceville, Ga.) made his 45th career start and took sole possession of third place in program history. The senior left hander went six innings on the mound. He gave up eight hits, four earned runs and struck out six, with three strikeouts coming in the first inning.
The Bruins remain home this weekend and host conference rival Eastern Kentucky beginning Friday, March 21. Friday's first pitch is scheduled for 4:00pm.
