NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Behind six unanswered runs, Southern Illinois came from behind to defeat Belmont (6-6), 7-6 Wednesday night at Rose Park.
Belmont had a 3-0 lead after two innings. Southern Illinois got on the board with a run in the top of the third.
The Bruins responded with a run in their half of the third to extend their lead, 4-1.
SIU added a run in the fourth, then scored five unearned runs in the sixth to take a lead they would not relinquish.
Belmont plated two in the seventh and eighth, but their rally came up short as the Salukis took the game, 7-6.
Offensively, senior William Dodd (Murfreesboro, Tenn.) went 3-for-3 and scored two runs.
Senior James Buckelew (Lawrenceville, Ga.) matched his career-best seven strikeouts through 5.2 innings of work.
Belmont will return to action this weekend against Southeast Missouri State as OVC play begins. The three-game series will be played at Rose Park beginning on Friday with the first pitch at 4:00pm.
