NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Early errors proved to be costly for the Bruins, as they dropped the series finale to Southeast Missouri, 7-0.
The Redhawks bats were hot in the first inning as they scored four runs. The Bruins were hitless until Drew Ferguson (Knoxville, Tenn.) singled down the left field line in the third.
SEMO scored another run in the fifth to extend their lead 5-0.
Freshmen Nick Egli (Brentwood, Tenn.) and Drake Byrd (Pigeon Forge, Tenn.) had the only other hits off SEMO pitching.
An RBI double from SEMO's Derek Gibson extended the Redhawks' lead 7-0 in the bottom of the seventh. Gibson had four runs batted in during the game.
Patrick McGrath (Jackson, Tenn.) went six innings on the mound. He gave up seven hits and one earned run. The left-hander struck out three and walked two.
Scott Moses (Englewood, Tenn.) came to the mound in the eighth and struck out the first two batters he faced. The junior allowed just one hit in his outing.
Belmont will be back in action on Tuesday as the team hosts Memphis at 4:00pm. The game can be seen on the OVC Digital Network and Rich Tiner will have the call on the Bruins Sports Network.
