CHARLESTON, Ill. – Belmont fell to Eastern Illinois, 10-2, Friday afternoon at Coaches Stadium.
EIU's Cameron Berra's two-run triple put the Panthers ahead 2-0 in the first. A pair of RBI singles from Caleb Howell and Demetre Taylor in the second drove in three runs to extend EIU's lead to 5-0.
Tyler Walsh hit a solo shot over the fence in left center to put the Bruins on the board in the third. The Panthers extended their lead to 9-1 in the bottom half.
In the fourth, a sacrifice fly from Brennan Washington scored Jamie Ritchie.
A wild pitch allowed EIU to add a run in the bottom of the seventh.
EIU starter Matt Borens gave up just two hits to the Bruins and struck out nine in his eight innings.
Blake Harvey registered a career long outing after 5.1 innings of relief. The right-hander gave up one earned run and matched a career-high three strikeouts.
The series with EIU will continue tomorrow at 1:00pm.
