Box Score NASHVILLE, Tenn.-- The Belmont Bruins took an early lead in the bottom of the first but ultimately as the temperatures dropped, so did the Bruins lead. The Bruins fell to the Vols 4-1 at Rose Park on Wednesday.
Left Hander, Dan Ludwig (Naperville, Ill.) took the start on the mound for the Bruins and pitched a solid three innings holding the Vols Scoreless. He retired all 9 batters faced and recorded 3 strikeouts.
The Bruins gained their only run in the bottom of the first with Alec Diamond (Kennesaw, Ga.) drawing a walk followed by a single from Drew Ferguson (Knoxville, Tenn.). Both runners advanced on a ground out by Matt Beaty (Dresden, Tenn.) which brought 4-hole Tyler Fullerton up to the plate. Fullerton supplied a sacrifice fly RBI that scored Diamond placing Belmont with the lead of 1-0 over Tennessee.
Belmont was not able to hold on to the lead as Tennessee fought back with a single run in the 4th, 5th, 6th and 9th inning.
The Bruins had 5 hits to the Vols 9. Recording hits for the Bruins were Alec Diamond, Drew Ferguson, William Dodd (Murfressboro, Tenn.), and two hits from first baseman Drake Byrd (Pigeon Forge, Tenn.).
The Bruins head to Macon, Ga. for a three-game weekend series (Feb 27.-Mar 1) against Mercer. The Bruins will return to Rose Park on March 4th to take on Memphis.
