Bruins Double Down

Box Score

NASHVILLE, Tenn.-- Although the weather did not look like it would hold out, the Bruins were only affected by a 4 minute rain delay. The Bruins powered past the Southern Illinois Salukis winning 9-4. At the plate, 6 of Belmont's 9 hit were doubles

Lefty, Patrick McGrath received the start and win on the mound for the Bruins. He is now 1-1 for the season and had 7 strikeouts in 6 innings pitched. He allowed only 2 earned runs on four hits.

Both Drew Ferguson (Knoxville, Tenn.) and Tyler Fullerton (Murfreesboro, Tenn.) went two for three at the plate. Both players contributed a double to the game and a total 3 RBI.

The Bruins placed some numbers on the board in the bottom of the second inning thanks to the help of Southern Illinois's pitching. Tyler Fullerton (Murfreesboro, Tenn.) and Tyler Walsh (Evansville, Ind.) led off the inning with a pair of hit by pitches. Desi Ammons (Hohenwald, Tenn.) then advanced to first on a walk. Bases are now loaded. Drake Byrd (Pigeon Forge, Tenn.) steps up to the plate and hits a double to right center to plate Walsh and Fullerton. With Ammons on second and Byrd on second. Brennan Washington (Murfreesboro, Tenn.) grounded out to third which plated Ammons. William Dodd (Murfreesboro, Tenn.) reached first on a fielder's choice which was followed by a walk for Alec Diamond (Kennesaw, Ga.). A sacrifice fly for Ferguson scored Byrd. Another two walks from SIU follow to plate the 5th batter. The Bruins scored 5 runs in the second inning off of only one hit.

The Bruins posted another solid inning bottom of the six after giving up four runs to the Salukis. Dom Veltri (Clarksville, Tenn.) came in as a pinch hitter for Washington and led off with a hard hit double down the right field line.  Dodd placed a sacrifice bunt back to the pitcher to advance Veltri to third. Diamond stepped up to the plate and hit a single to left field and advanced to second off a throwing error, Veltri Scored. This brought Belmont's lead to 6-3. With Diamond on second, both Ferguson and Beaty hit short flys to the right side to score Diamond and Ferguson. The lead after the 6th inning grew to 8-3.

In the 7th, Desi Ammons led off with a walk and received his first stolen base of the season. Ammons advanced to third on a Sacrifice fly by Veltri, now in scoring position. Dodd stepped up to the plate with a clutch double to right field to plate Ammons.

The Bruins defeated the Southern Illinois Salukis with 6 powerful doubles.
