JACKSONVILLE, Ala. – The Belmont men's tennis team snapped their three match losing streak as they beat Jacksonville State 5-2 in an OVC match played Saturday in Jacksonville, Alabama.
The Bruins took the early 1-0 lead as they captured the doubles point. At position one, seniors Mauricio Antun and Marko Lovrinovic blanked Pedro Wagner and Jeff Wendler-Filho 8-0. Than at number three, junior Robin Demasse and sophomore Bruno Russo beat Mathias Chaim and Dylan Gee 8-5.
In singles, BU continued its strong play, earning wins in four of the six positions to clinch the 5-2 road victory over the Gamecocks. At number one, Antun beat Wendler-Filho 6-4, 6-4. Then at three, sophomore Cedric Dujacquier defeated Pedro Wagner 6-2, 6-1. At four, Demasse beat Chaim 6-4, 6-4, while a number six, Russo beat Felipe Wenzel in three sets: 6-7, 7-6, and 10-4.
Belmont (7-8, 2-3) is back on the court on Tuesday as they host Eastern Illinois at 2:00pm at Centennial Sportsplex.
