Bruins Even Series

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn.-- Even though the Bruins were outhit 12-10 by the Governors, Belmont was able to pull out the win. The Bruins defeated Austin Peay 12-8 in game two of the three game series. 

Starting on the mound was Aaron Quillen (Kingsport, Tenn.) who pitched 5 full innings and struck out seven. 

Freshman Kyle Conger (Brentwood, Tenn.) went 2 for 4 at the plate driving in three runs and one RBI. Matt Beaty (Dresden, Tenn.) also went 2 for 4 at the plate driving in a single run and recording a single RBI. 

Austin Peay took an early lead on the Bruins in the second plating three runs. The Bruins returned the deed in the top of the third. William Dodd (Murfreesboro, Tenn.) led off the inning with a single through the left side and later advanced to third on a throwing error by the catcher. Conger stepped up to the plate and doubled down the left field line to plate Dodd and put the Bruins on the board. Three singles followed to plate Conger. With bases loaded, Tyler Fullerton (Murfreesboro, Tenn.) drew an RBI walk for the third run of the inning. A single up the middle from Tyler Walsh (Evansville, Ind.) plated Ferguson for the Bruins first lead of the game. 

Austin Peay tacked on a run in the bottom half of the third to tie the game, but the Bruins came back with two in the fourth both runs scored off two wild pitches. 

Brennan Washington (Murfreesboro, Tenn.) led off the sixth inning with a double to left field to start off another four run inning for the Bruins. Washington advanced to third on a sac-fly and was plated off a throwing error. Three batters reached base on a walk, error, and hit by pitch to load the bases. Fullerton stepped up to the plate and delivered with a two RBI single to center field extending the lead to 9-4. Last run was plated off an RBI hit-by-pitch.

The Bruins also plated a single run the seventh and ninth to extend the lead and counter the three  runs plated by the Govs in the eighth. 

Quillen received the win on the mound and improves his record to 4-2. The Bruins improve their overall record to 18-14 and and 9-4 in conference play. 

The Bruins return to Raymond C. Hand Park tomorrow at 1PM for their last game of the series with Austin Peay.
