Box Score CLARKSVILLE, Tenn.-- Despite a large lead heading into the bottom of the fourth inning, Austin Peay rallied their troops and won with a solo homerun in the eighth. The Bruins dropped the series and lost 10-9 on Sunday at Raymond C. Hand Park.
The Bruins started off the game hot scoring two runs in the first inning off three hits. Tyler Walsh (Evansville, Ind.) drove in the two runs who had both reached by singles.
Top of the 2nd the Bruins posted three runs on the board starting off with a single up the middle for Kyle Conger (Brentwood, Tenn.) Alec Diamond followed behind and singled to left center. With runners on the corners, Drew Ferguson provided a far sac fly to left field to plate Conger. With two outs and one runner on, three-hole Matt Beaty (Dresden, Tenn.) homered to right field to regain the Bruins lead after the Govs posted three runs in the first.
In the third inning the Bruins held Austin peay to one run and plated another two. Nick Egli (Brentwood, Tenn.) led off with a single through the right side and later scored on a wild pitch. Brennan Washington (Murfreesboro, Tenn.) stepped up to the plate with two outs and hit his second triple of the season to left field. A single from Conger sent Washington home.
The Bruins were able to post another two runs on the board in the fourth to extend the lead to 9-6 before being held scoreless by Austin Peay's John Sparks who only allowed two hits in four innings of work. Despite the lead, the Bruins couldn't hold the Governors and gave up the five runs scored after the fourth on seven hits.
The Bruins record drops to 18-15 overall and 9-5 in the Ohio Valley Conference.
The Bruins continue their road games with a midweek contest on Tuesday against defending National Champion Vanderbilt and a midweek contest on Wednesday in Memhpis to face the Tigers. The Bruins return home to Rose Park on Friday April 17th to host the Eastern Illinois Panthers in a three game OVC series.
