NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Belmont men's tennis team fell to Jacksonville State 4-2 in an OVC Tournament first round match held Friday afternoon at Centennial Sportsplex in Nashville.
The Gamecocks earned the first point of the match as they posted wins at doubles positions two and three. The Bruins did pick up a win at number one as senior Mauricio Antun and Marko Lovrinovic beat Jeff Wendler-Filho and Pedro Wagner 8-3.
In singles, JSU built an early 3-0 lead as they captured wins at positions one and five. At one, Wendler-Filho beat Antun 6-2, 6-4. Then at five, Jarryd Reese beat Caio Niel 6-2, 6-0.
The Bruins stormed back and cut the lead to 3-2 as Lovrinovic won at two over Dylan Gee 6-4, 6-2 and sophomore Bruno Russo beat Felipe Wenzel at six 2-6, 6-3, and -4.
However, the Gamecock clinched the victory at four as Pedro Wagner outlasted Robin Demasse in three sets: 5-7, 6-3, and 6-4.
Jacksonville State moves onto the semifinals where they will face Eastern Kentucky on Saturday.
Belmont ends its season with an overall record of 10-10.
