Box Score COOKEVILLE, Tenn.-- After two big innings for the Golden Eagles, the Bruins slowly chipped away at the Tech lead falling just one run short in the ninth. The Bruins dropped the series 11-10 against Tennessee Tech on Sunday.
The Bruins did not come up short in the power division against the Golden Eagles. Senior, Drew Ferguson (Knoxville, Tenn.) went four for five at the plate with two home runs. Nick Egli (Brentwood, Tenn.), Tyler Fullerton (Murfreesboro, Tenn.), and Brennan Washington (Murfreesboro, Tenn.) also recorded home runs for the Bruins.
Patrick McGrath (Jackson, Tenn.) received the start on the mound for the Bruins pitching three innings. He gave up two earned runs on four hits, striking out one.
The Bruins gained the lead in the second inning when Nick Egli Led off the inning with a solo home run to left center. A single by Alec Diamond (Kennesaw, Ga.) plated the tying run. With bases loaded, Matt Beaty (Dresden, Tenn.) delivered a two RBI single to center field to gain the two run lead.
Tennessee Tech retaliated with a large third and fourth inning plating four runs in each. Slowly tacking on the runs the Bruins brought the game within one run in the top of the ninth with a solo home run by Drew Ferguson but ultimately fell short.
The Bruins record falls to 26-14 overall and 14-12 in the OVC. They travel to Middle Tennessee on Tuesday to face the Blue Raiders before returning home to Rose Park for a three game series with Southeast Missouri. For more information follow belmontbruins.com and @BelmontBaseball on Twitter.
